Siva Balakrishnan was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 2006. He did part of his pupillage at this firm and has this to say of his pupillage at Salem Ibrahim & Partners,

“I had a fulfilling pupillage. There was incessant interaction with the lawyers in the firm. My pupil master ensured that I received proper training. He took effort on a daily basis to discuss cases in which I was assisting. I was never a spectator, but always a participant.

Through these discussions, I learnt the art of discerning the salient points of the case and the technique of mastering the file within a short span of time.

I was regularly asked to sit in conferences my pupil master had with clients. I was taught to simulate giving advice to clients and compare the simulated advice with the advice given by my pupil master.

I attended a High Court ex-parte interlocutory injunction application in which I assisted in preparing the affidavits, the law and draft submissions. I attended a full High Court trial in which I was part of the supporting team. I was asked to mentally simulate being lead counsel and make notes which were discussed by my pupil master after the trial.

My pupillage experience at Salem Ibrahim & Partners has given me confidence, created a sense of awareness of the responsibilities of a lawyer and reinforced my motivation to be a good litigator.”
